[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] It looked like a normal home, but inside, illegal entertainment business was conducted with alcohol tables worth around 2 million won. This business used COVID-19 as both a shield and an opportunity.
Exploiting loopholes in COVID-19 restrictions on entertainment establishments, an illegal entertainment business operating within the 101-story high-rise residence, Busan Haeundae LCT (LCT), was cracked down on.
Busan Police Agency announced on the 13th that since the 2nd, they have conducted intensive crackdowns on entertainment facilities in the city, shutting down a total of 24 establishments, including 7 violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act and 17 engaging in illegal business activities such as violations of the Food Sanitation Act.
Among the establishments caught in this crackdown was an illegal entertainment business operating within the LCT Residence, which is primarily a residential area.
The Busan Police Agency’s Public Safety Division conducted an intensive internal investigation into entertainment business operations within the residence and identified three suspects, including a business owner in their 30s, for operating an unlicensed entertainment bar. They are currently under investigation.
According to the police, on January 26th at around 9:30 PM, these individuals hired female hostesses inside the LCT Residence and sold alcohol and side dishes worth approximately 2 million won to two customers, violating the Food Sanitation Act.
Considering the difficulty in confirming business activities within the residence, the Busan Police Agency secured CCTV footage from the LCT Residence and began inquiries into those entering and exiting.
After a long period of tracking bank accounts and reviewing communication records, they uncovered evidence of the illegal business operations.
It was revealed that they exploited the difficulty of accessing entertainment establishments due to strengthened quarantine measures by opening a room-bar style pub within the LCT Residence, where acquaintances could enjoy the Haeundae night view, to conduct their business.
