Teaching Korean and Culture as a Bonus... Dongseo University Launches 'Go Global!' Program Online DSU, Go Global! The 3rd Opening Ceremony is being held online.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University has launched an event to promote Korean culture on the global stage.

On the 13th, Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) announced that the International College hosted the 3rd opening ceremony of “DSU, Go Global! (Dongseo University, Reach Out to the World!)” online.

DSU, Go Global! is a program where Korean students at Dongseo University meet foreign students both online and offline to teach Korean in English, Chinese, Japanese, and other languages, while promoting Korean culture.

Through weekly one-on-one tutor-tutee meetings, Korean students develop a global mindset and foreign language skills.

Foreign students improve their Korean language skills and learn about Korean culture by communicating with their Korean peers.

This semester, a total of 240 students are participating. Among them, 120 Korean students belong to 26 departments, including East Asian Studies and Computer Engineering.

The 120 foreign students include not only Dongseo University students but also students from various universities and institutions worldwide, such as the San Antonio Sejong Institute of the University of St. Mary in the U.S., the Surabaya Sejong Institute of Petra Christian University in Indonesia, the Astrakhan Sejong Institute of Astrakhan State University in Russia, the Vilnius Sejong Institute of Mykolas Romeris University in Lithuania, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China which jointly operates the Campus Asia project with the East Asian Studies department, and Ritsumeikan University in Japan.

At the opening ceremony, students introduced themselves briefly in Korean, English, and Japanese, and shared their impressions of participating in the program, welcoming each other.

Korean students expressed their determination, saying, “Although all activities slowed down due to COVID-19, I am grateful to meet foreign friends even through ZOOM” (Song Hyo-won, DIS), and “I want to exchange various cultures with global friends” (Jo Ye-jin, Department of International Logistics).

Foreign students also expressed their expectations, saying, “I hope to learn Korean language and culture and make good friends through the program” (Aprelita Nurelli Dwiana, Surabaya Sejong Institute), and “I am excited to meet various friends and learn languages through the program” (Vanessa Juarez, San Antonio Sejong Institute).

Kim Hee-kyung, Dean of the International College, said, “I extend my gratitude and encouragement to all participants and hope this opportunity will help them become global partners who support each other.”

The program will continue steadily through the summer vacation, the second semester, and the winter vacation after the first semester ends.

It is expected to serve as a channel to form a meaningful global network through continuous and active exchanges between Korean and foreign students at Dongseo University.
