From June 15 to July 31, Free Food Waste Collection for Small Restaurants... Support for Small Business Owners Facing Economic Hardship Due to COVID-19... 5,864 Small Restaurants in the Area Benefit
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) will temporarily provide free food waste collection for small restaurants from the 15th to July 31st.
This support for food waste disposal costs aims to help small business owners who are experiencing sales declines due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the expanded implementation of social distancing measures to prevent infections.
The eligible businesses are small restaurants using payment certificates (general restaurants with a store area under 200㎡, and rest area restaurants under 300㎡). They can dispose of food waste by placing it in designated collection containers without attaching the payment certificate.
The collection, transportation, and disposal fees will all be covered by the district, with a total fee reduction amounting to approximately 220 million KRW, benefiting 5,864 small restaurants in the area.
Meanwhile, to implement this project, the district revised the "Ordinance on the Suppression, Collection, Transportation, and Recycling of Food Waste in Gwanak-gu" on the 1st, establishing regulations for fee reductions.
The ordinance specifies that fee reductions and support for waste disposal fees are possible during disaster situations, enabling smooth and prompt assistance in future emergencies.
Mayor Park Junhee said, "I hope this support will provide some help to small restaurants struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "We will continue to make every effort to overcome the crisis and revitalize the local economy by implementing various support measures for small business owners."
