Ethics Tribunal Held: '6-Month Suspension of Duty Qualification'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Gwangran, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party of Korea), who was found to have been caught driving under the influence after being elected as a city councilor, has been disciplined by her party.
According to the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan Party on the 12th, the Ethics Tribunal meeting held that day decided to suspend Kim's party position for six months.
Eight out of nine members of the Ethics Tribunal attended and the decision was unanimous.
Kim was caught driving under the influence shortly after being elected as a city councilor in September 2018, resulting in her license being revoked and a confirmed fine of 2 million won.
The Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan Party recognized the disciplinary charges against Kim belatedly on the 1st, submitted a disciplinary petition, and convened the Ethics Tribunal.
Meanwhile, organizations such as Participatory Autonomy 21 and the Progressive Party Gwangju Metropolitan Party have called for Kim's resignation, accusing her of hiding the DUI incident while carrying out her legislative duties.
