[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Manchester United fans are posting racist malicious comments targeting Son Heung-min (29), who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

The club strongly condemned the behavior and stated that they will conduct an investigation and take necessary measures.

On the 12th (Korean time), Son Heung-min scored the opening goal in the 40th minute of the first half during the 31st round home match of the 2020-21 English Premier League season between Tottenham and Manchester United held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK.

However, after Son Heung-min's opening goal, Tottenham conceded three goals in the second half and collapsed. The match ended with Manchester United winning 3-1 after a comeback.

Earlier in the match, Manchester United scored first in the 33rd minute of the first half, but the goal was canceled after video assistant referee (VAR) review showed Manchester United’s Scott McTominay hitting Son Heung-min’s face with his right hand during the play.

After the match ended, Manchester United fans went to Son Heung-min’s social network service (SNS) and flooded it with racist comments.

Manchester United fans posted comments such as "Diving cheater," "Monkey," "Are you a K-drama actor?" "This is the Premier League, not a K-drama," and "Eat dog or bat," along with abusive language. They also used monkey emoticons and mocked his small eyes.

The club has expressed a strong stance to respond firmly.

Tottenham Hotspur posted on their official SNS account, "One of our players has been subjected to hateful racial discrimination. We will conduct an investigation together with the Premier League and review effective measures to take." They added, "We support Son Heung-min."
