[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] GenCurix, a liquid biopsy molecular diagnostics specialist company, announced on the 12th that it has filed an international patent for a biomarker for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
This patent includes technology that verifies the colorectal cancer specificity and detection accuracy of selected biomarkers using various specimens such as tissue and blood. It is evaluated that this demonstrates the usefulness for colorectal cancer diagnosis and the novelty as a core technology.
The company plans to accelerate the approval process from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for 'COLO eDX,' a liquid biopsy for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer applying this biomarker technology. By utilizing the droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) platform, this product is recognized for achieving significantly higher sensitivity compared to existing molecular diagnostic methods, leading the field in liquid biopsy early diagnosis. Once launched, it is expected to completely replace conventional stool sample tests with a simple blood-based diagnosis.
A GenCurix official stated, “We are conducting clinical trials of COLO eDX with domestic medical institutions,” and added, “Full-scale sales are expected to begin next year.”
Meanwhile, this colorectal cancer early diagnosis biomarker is the third international patent filed by GenCurix for early diagnosis. Using its independently developed early diagnosis biomarker discovery system 'MethyLAMP,' the company has succeeded in discovering unique early diagnosis biomarkers targeting various cancer types including colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and bladder cancer.
The company explained, “The MethyLAMP system can analyze large-scale methylation genome data from tens of thousands of cases, making it a unique technology that can be diversely applied depending on the purpose and method of diagnosis,” and added, “Through active research and development, we will continuously strengthen our early diagnosis portfolio for various cancer types.”
