[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] KOTRA announced on the 12th that it has published a report titled 'Trends in Russia's Hydrogen Economy and Cooperation Plans with Korea,' which reviews Russia's recent hydrogen economy promotion status, introduces key cooperation partners such as Rosatom, and outlines Russia's external cooperation status and collaboration plans with Korea.
KOTRA introduced that Russia's government announced the '2035 Russian Energy Development Strategy' last year, which includes the 'Russia Hydrogen Energy Development Roadmap.' According to the roadmap, Russia plans to become a global hydrogen supplier by 2024 by utilizing abundant natural gas and renewable energy. Starting with hydrogen exports of 200,000 tons in 2024, Russia aims to expand its export volume to over 2 million tons by 2035.
Russia is conducting discussions related to hydrogen supply with countries such as Japan and Germany. Through the report, KOTRA proposed the following measures to expand cooperation between Korea and Russia in the global hydrogen economy: △ import of affordable Russian hydrogen △ technological cooperation in hydrogen storage and transportation △ joint entry of Korea and Russia into the global hydrogen market.
