Gangdong-gu, Additional Issuance of 5 Billion Won in Gangdong Bitsal Money (10% Discount) Today

10% Special Discount and Reduction of Purchase Limit to 500,000 KRW per Person to Benefit More Residents

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will issue an additional 5 billion KRW of Gangdong Bitsal Money on the 12th to stimulate consumption and increase sales for small business owners, which have been depressed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The 3 billion KRW Bitsal Money issued on the 8th of last month was quickly sold out within three days despite additional restrictions on usage at large private academies to strengthen support for small business owners, and it was evaluated to have been a practical help in promoting consumption and increasing sales for small business owners.

The district decided to issue an additional 5 billion KRW to provide further support to small business owners facing difficulties due to the ongoing third wave of COVID-19.

The newly issued Bitsal Money will offer a 10% special discount, and the monthly purchase limit per person will be reduced from 700,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW to provide discount benefits to more residents.

Gangdong Bitsal Money is a rechargeable prepaid card-type local currency for those who have difficulty using mobile phones. Residents who wish to use it can visit Gangdong Nonghyup, Dongseoul Credit Union, or Saemaeul Geumgo within the district, fill out a membership application, and purchase it, or download and install the ‘Gae Seoul’ app on a smartphone registered in their name to purchase and use it.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “Gangdong Bitsal Money is the first card-type local currency issued by an autonomous district and can be used at any business within the district that accepts card payments, making it easy for those who have difficulty using mobile phones to use it. In April, we adjusted the purchase limit and are offering a 10% special discount sale so that more residents can use it. We hope you will actively use Gangdong Bitsal Money.”
