[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Kyumsu) held the "Pilgrimage Trail Trekking with Captain Eom Hong-gil" on the 11th from 2 PM to 5 PM as part of the "April 19 Revolution National Cultural Festival 2021."
The event was conducted in connection with the "Youth Hope Expedition" program. Since its inception in 2012, the Youth Hope Expedition is a program where second-year middle school students climb mountains to cultivate a spirit of challenge and overcome real-life situations such as academic stress.
On this day, about 60 students held a launching ceremony at the National April 19 Democratic Cemetery, then divided into four groups to walk approximately 4.2 km to Bonghwanggak together with mountaineer Captain Eom Hong-gil. Visiting places imbued with the spirit of modern Korean history such as the Modern History Memorial Hall, April 19 Observatory, and Bonghwanggak, the youths took time to reflect on the sacrifice spirit of the patriotic martyrs and the April 19 heroes.
Park Kyumsu, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said at the event, "It is meaningful to be able to pass on the April 19 revolutionary spirit of the ancestors to the future generation, the youth, through the pilgrimage trail trekking," and added, "I hope that the future leaders of Korea will continue to honor the meaning of April 19 and inherit the spirit of democracy."
