An 8-Month-Old Infant Dies from Gunshot Fired by Three-Year-Old Sibling... Another Gun Tragedy in the US

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Another tragedy caused by gun violence has repeated in the United States, where mass shootings have recently occurred one after another.

Local media reported on the 9th (local time) that an 8-month-old baby was shot and killed by his 3-year-old older brother in an apartment in Houston, Texas.

The baby was fatally shot in the abdomen and was taken to a nearby hospital but ultimately died around 11 a.m. that day.

The Houston Police Department stated that a firearm was secured from the vehicle the family was in while transporting the child to the hospital. Wendy Baimbridge, Deputy Chief of the Houston Police Department, said, "We want to ask parents and guardians to ensure that all family members cannot access firearms," and urged, "Please make sure to use gun locks."

Earlier, on the 16th of last month, eight people, including a Korean American woman, died in a mass shooting in Atlanta, followed by another mass shooting on the 22nd in Boulder that killed 10 people. Additionally, a shooting occurred at an office in Orange County, about 50 miles from downtown Los Angeles, California, resulting in four deaths, including a child, and two people seriously injured.

As mass shootings have occurred one after another recently, public opinion for gun control in the United States has intensified, and on the 8th, U.S. President Joe Biden announced gun control measures, calling gun violence "a pandemic and an international embarrassment."
