[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The White House announced on the 9th that 19 global companies, including South Korea's Samsung, will participate in a virtual CEO summit for semiconductor, automotive, and tech companies.

According to the White House joint press corps on the 9th (local time), Jake Sullivan, National Security Council (NSC) Advisor, and Brian Deese, National Economic Council (NEC) Director, will chair a virtual CEO summit on semiconductor and supply chain restoration on the afternoon of the 12th. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo will also attend the meeting.

The participating companies include Samsung Electronics, Taiwan's TSMC, Alphabet (Google's parent company), AT&T, Cummins, Dell Technologies, Ford, GM, GlobalFoundries, HP, Intel, Medtronic, Micron, Northrop Grumman, NXP, PACCAR, Piston Group, SkyWater Technology, and Stellantis, totaling 19 companies.

A wide range of companies such as integrated semiconductor manufacturers, foundries, automotive companies, telecommunications firms, computer manufacturers, and internet companies will participate to discuss the semiconductor supply shortage.

The White House stated that U.S. officials and business leaders will discuss measures to strengthen the resilience of the U.S. supply chain in semiconductors and other key sectors as part of the U.S. jobs plan.

Due to delays in semiconductor chip supply, production of automobiles, home appliances, and smartphones is being disrupted not only in the U.S. but globally.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing the previous day that the U.S. government is focusing significantly at the highest level on the semiconductor shortage issue.
