[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] It has been reported that a high-ranking official of the Coast Guard is under Blue House inspection for making sexually harassing remarks and other abusive language toward employees.

On the 9th, SBS News reported that the Director of the Coast Guard's Rescue and Safety Bureau, a senior official at the rank of Police Commissioner, made various sexually harassing remarks and abusive language during an official staff meeting early last month, leading to an inspection by the Blue House.

According to the report, while discussing security-related topics, he suddenly said things like "Women become victims of sexual violence like comfort women during war" and "There are no virgins these days."

The meeting was attended by female officers as well, and he mentioned women's underwear while talking about his own dating experiences.

He also made discriminatory remarks about places of residence.

Participants said he compared people living in Gangnam and Bundang, like himself, to tigers and their children to tiger cubs, while employees living in other regions were called dogs and their children dog’s offspring.

The Blue House Anti-Corruption Secretary’s Office obtained related intelligence and is calling in the bureau’s employees to verify the facts.

In a phone call with SBS reporters, the director responded to the Blue House inspection by saying it was "the first time hearing about it."

The director reportedly did not respond to subsequent text messages and call attempts from SBS reporters.
