[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Oh Se-hoon, the elected mayor of Seoul, reportedly secured 58.7% of the votes in Gwangjin-eul, Seoul, which is considered a stronghold of the ruling party. This area was where Oh lost to Go Min-jung of the Democratic Party of Korea in last year's general election.

According to the Central Election Commission on the 8th, Oh received 48,837 votes (58.7%) out of a total of 83,168 votes cast in Gwangjin-eul, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

Meanwhile, Park Young-sun, former Minister of SMEs and Startups who competed against Mayor Oh, received only 30,908 votes (37.2%). Gwangjin-eul includes Guui 1 and 3-dong, Jayang 1, 2, 3, and 4-dong, and Hwayang-dong.

In particular, Gwangjin-eul is an area where former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae was elected five times in the 15th, 16th, 18th, 19th, and 20th general elections, and it has been classified as a representative Democratic Party stronghold. No opposition candidate has ever been elected in this district in the past 24 years.

Previously, Oh also ran against Go in Gwangjin-eul during last year's general election but lost by a margin of 2.6 percentage points. At that time, Go received 50.4% of the votes, while Mayor Oh received 47.8%.

Meanwhile, Go apologized for referring to the victim of the late Park Won-soon, former mayor of Seoul, in the sexual harassment case as a 'victim complainant' and eventually resigned from her position as spokesperson for Park Young-sun's campaign.
