Gwangju City Provides 5 Surplus Fire Trucks to Paraguay Free of Charge

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 8th that it will provide five decommissioned fire trucks to Paraguay free of charge.

The Fire Safety Headquarters has been promoting the "Decommissioned Fire Truck Free Support Project for Developing Countries" since 2018, which supports fire trucks that have passed their legal usage period to developing countries to promote the excellence of domestic firefighting equipment and to improve firefighting environments and strengthen exchange and cooperation with developing countries.

Starting with six vehicles to Paraguay in 2018 (3 pump trucks, 2 water tank trucks, 1 ambulance), eight vehicles to Paraguay in 2019 (4 pump trucks, 4 ambulances), three vehicles to the Philippines in 2020 (1 pump truck, 2 ambulances), and seven vehicles to Paraguay in 2020 (2 pump trucks, 5 ambulances) were donated.

The fire trucks provided this time include 2 fire pump trucks and 3 special ambulances. They were shipped from Gwangyang Port this week and will depart for Paraguay, where they are expected to be deployed to Paraguayan firefighting agencies to help improve firefighting and ambulance equipment environments.

Choi Min-cheol, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, "Firefighting equipment that has protected citizens' lives and property is demonstrating its capabilities overseas as well," adding, "We will continue various support efforts such as equipment donation, technology exchange, and environmental improvement."

Meanwhile, this year, one additional ambulance was provided free of charge to Nambu University, a local educational institution, to offer field training opportunities for students in the regional emergency medical services department.
