Gwangju City Holds Collaborative Meeting to Create Safe Public Restrooms

Joint Inspection by City, District, and Police at 282 Locations for Illegal Camera Installations and More

Gwangju City Holds Collaborative Meeting to Create Safe Public Restrooms

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 8th that it held a collaborative meeting to create safe public restrooms at City Hall, attended by more than 20 people including public restroom managers from autonomous districts, Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, and life safety officers from the relevant police stations.

The meeting was organized to share the results of joint inspections of public restrooms conducted by Gwangju City, the relevant police stations, autonomous districts, and Gwangju Police Agency from the 8th to the 28th of last month, and to discuss improvements and plans to establish a regular inspection system.

The inspection covered 282 public restrooms in the jurisdiction, checking for the installation of illegal hidden cameras (hereafter illegal cameras) inside restrooms and the operation status of safety bells.

The safety bell attached to public restrooms is a system where pressing the bell in an emergency triggers the bell sound and activates a warning light installed outside, prompting nearby people to assist and notifying 112 so that patrol cars can quickly respond.

The joint inspection team thoroughly checked ▲the attachment status of safety bells ▲the operation of warning lights ▲and any abnormalities in the real-time transmission system to the 112 situation room.

In particular, inspections were conducted on suspicious locations such as ventilation ducts, trash bins, ceilings, and wall holes using infrared cameras and radio wave detectors, and no suspected cases of illegal camera installation were found.

Additionally, when dangerous elements such as holes were found within the facilities, safety stickers were attached as a method to block illegal cameras.

Song Jin-nam, Director of the Water Circulation Policy Division of the city, said, “We will continue to actively collaborate with the Gwangju Police Agency to conduct ongoing inspections and create safe public restrooms that citizens can use safely.”
