Unmanned Drone Carries 9 Small Drones and Releases Them Mid-Air
Chinese Media Predicts Future Aerial Combat Will Change
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] A Chinese drone development company has developed an 'unmanned drone mothership' and successfully conducted a test flight, Chinese state-run Global Times reported on the 8th.
The drone mothership developed by China Zhongtian Feilong Company can carry and fly with nine small unmanned drones.
The mothership can drop the small drones it carries upon reaching a designated point to perform reconnaissance and attack missions, the media reported. It is a kind of aircraft carrier concept.
However, it was reported that it has not been confirmed whether the mothership can recover the small drones after their missions are completed.
Chinese military experts unanimously stated that unmanned drone mothership technology could change the future of warfare. They explained that if the mothership becomes larger and its flight range increases, it could perform strategic combat roles beyond its current tactical combat roles.
Meanwhile, Global Times added, citing the U.S. media Defense News, that the U.S. is developing unmanned drone technology, such as the XQ-58A Valkyrie unmanned aerial vehicle experimenting with small unmanned drones (ALTIUS-600).
