[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] On the 7th (local time), the Myanmar military expelled the Ambassador to the UK, who had called for the release of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, from the embassy located in London.
Ambassador Cho Tsuwa Min to the UK said to major foreign media on the same day, "I have been denied entry to the embassy," raising his voice, calling it "a kind of coup that happened in the heart of London."
Acting under the military's orders, Deputy Chief of Mission Chit Win blocked Ambassador Min's position that day. The BBC reported, "The embassy requested the UK police to prevent Ambassador Min from entering."
As photos showing Ambassador Min being blocked by UK police spread, protesters criticizing the Myanmar military gathered in front of the embassy.
Ambassador Min fell out of favor with the military after issuing a statement on the 8th of last month criticizing the coup and calling for the release of State Counsellor Suu Kyi and President Win Myint. Since then, the military ordered Ambassador Min to return to the home country.
The UK Foreign Office is currently discussing matters related to Ambassador Min and his expulsion. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office stated in a press release, "We are seeking follow-up information regarding the incident that occurred at the Myanmar Embassy in the UK."
