Accelerating the Establishment of High-Class 'GTX Transfer Centers'... 17 Members Appointed to the General Planning Team Transfer Center General Planning Team History Location Map (Source=Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport)

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 8th that it has launched a General Planning Team composed of 17 private experts to ensure that the Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX) transfer center project is promoted professionally and systematically.

The General Planning Team system is a system that allows private experts to continuously participate in policy formulation or project planning and operation stages to secure expertise and consistency. The transfer center General Planning Team, promoted as a pilot project, is the first case introduced in the transportation field.

The General Planning Team consists of private experts from various fields such as transportation, urban planning, architecture, and civil engineering. Through sectoral linkage, it performs overall coordination, adjustment, and planning roles for the entire project to help local governments establish optimal basic plans for transfer centers.

This pilot project will be applied first to six stations (Yangjae, Suwon, Yongin, Incheon City Hall, Bupyeong, Songdo) among the ten stations selected in last year’s GTX transfer center pilot project contest, and three stations (Deokjeong, Mangu, KINTEX) where local governments have actively requested support from the General Planning Team.

Specifically, one transportation expert will be appointed for each station, and two experts in fields such as urban planning, architecture, and civil engineering, which local governments require, will be appointed by division to support the establishment of the GTX transfer center basic plans by local governments.

Professor Kim Hyunsoo, appointed as the general planner in the urban planning field and president of the Korean Society of Land and Urban Planning, said, "As seen in the 2050 Carbon Neutral Promotion Strategy and the 2·4 Housing Supply Plan promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, transit station area complex high-density development will become a very important agenda in the future."

Choi Kiju, chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, emphasized, "Through the General Planning Team pilot project, we will promote the transfer center project solidly and support the GTX transfer center to become a landmark representing the region."
