[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, is strongly promoting measures to reduce livestock odor in the Juchon-myeon new town area, where odor complaints have been continuously raised.
According to the city on the 7th, 120 million KRW will be invested this year in a new project to support six farms in installing odor prevention facilities at livestock farms designated as odor management areas.
The main cause of livestock odor is the emission of odor-causing substances generated by the decomposition of livestock manure accumulated in storage tanks, which can be resolved by timely collection of the manure.
The city supports the installation of an aerobic circulation system to reduce the decomposition of accumulated manure, fundamentally blocking the putrefactive environment by supplying and circulating oxygen within the storage tanks.
In addition, a subsidy of 26 million KRW will be provided to three farms to help with the additional costs incurred when livestock manure, which is difficult to process entirely within the region, is treated in other areas, assisting in the disposal of about 2,000 tons of manure.
Furthermore, through public-private coexistence council meetings, livestock industry stakeholders, citizens, and the city share the progress of odor improvement efforts and seek various solutions to reduce odor.
Lee Yong-gyu, Director of the Water Quality Environment Division, said, “We are well aware of the inconveniences caused to citizens by livestock odor in the Juchon-myeon area,” adding, “We will do our best to resolve complaints through support for livestock odor improvement and intensive inspections.”
