Gyeonggi Office of Education Implements 'Gyeonggi Future School' Spaces in New School Buildings

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has revised the guidelines for the operation of the design competition system for educational facility projects to ensure that Gyeonggi Future School spaces can be implemented in newly constructed schools.

The design competition system, introduced in 2016, is a system that evaluates and selects design proposals through a design competition review committee when carrying out new construction or expansion projects for educational facilities such as schools, gymnasiums, and affiliated institutions within the province.

Through the revised operation guidelines, the Gyeonggi Office of Education newly established the "Gyeonggi Future School Space Plan" as an evaluation item for the design competition review committee, reflecting detailed items such as indoor plazas and school forest creation plans in the scoring.

Additionally, the design competition guidelines now incorporate the Gyeonggi Future School Space Plan, and participants in the design competition are required to submit proposals for the Gyeonggi Future School Space Plan.

Accordingly, all new school construction projects in the province will be promoted based on the design of Gyeonggi Future School spaces from the competition process. The revised operation guidelines will be applied starting from the announcement on the 5th.

Kim I-du, Director of Facilities at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, stated, "By directly reflecting the Gyeonggi Future School Space Plan in the design competition operation guidelines, we plan to practically implement future school spaces promoted by the Office of Education, such as indoor plazas and school forests," adding, "We expect that various future school spaces reflecting local conditions and school characteristics will be created through the competition."
