[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Glovon and Green Science announced that they have invested a total of approximately 30 billion KRW to build a 3MW-class plasma gasification power plant commercializing microwave plasma technology in the Cheoram-dong area of Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do, and held a completion ceremony on the 31st.
The event was attended by about 80 people, including Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon-do, Ryu Tae-ho, Mayor of Taebaek, Kim Cheon-su, Chairman of Taebaek City Council, officials from related organizations, Hansangho, Chairman of Glovon, Lee Bong-ju, CEO of Green Science, executives and representatives of affiliated companies, institution heads, and local representatives.
This power plant is a gasification power plant utilizing microwave plasma torch technology developed for the first time in the world by Green Science. The total power generation capacity is 3MW, enough to supply 7,500 households simultaneously. Currently, due to power grid connection conditions, it produces 2MW of electricity, and the gas corresponding to the remaining 1MW is converted into hydrogen, producing about 600kg of hydrogen per day.
In January, Glovon acquired 51% of the shares of Green Science, which holds the microwave plasma patent technology. They announced their transformation into an eco-friendly renewable energy company utilizing waste and their plan to pursue ‘win-win management’ with Green Science.
Based on the plasma patent technology owned by Green Science, the two companies plan to vigorously develop eco-friendly energy businesses in domestic and overseas markets. Dr. Lee Bong-ju, CEO of Green Science and plasma scientist, will participate by continuing research and development based on technological capabilities, while Glovon will take charge of capital, sales, and marketing to actively expand the business.
Additionally, in cooperation with Gangwon-do, Taebaek-si, and Gangwon Technopark, they plan to promote a demonstration project to gasify waste synthetic resin household waste such as waste plastics and waste vinyl using plasma torch to recycle resources and produce hydrogen, which will be fully implemented starting in April.
