Hwang Hee "Generous Support for the Sports Ethics Center's Rebound"

Orders for Strengthening Organizational Capabilities and Organic Functions

Hwang Hee "Generous Support for the Sports Ethics Center's Rebound"

On the 30th, Hwang Hee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, visited the Sports Ethics Center to gather employees' opinions on organizational restructuring as part of its relaunch.

The Sports Ethics Center is a dedicated organization established to protect the human rights of athletes and eradicate corruption in sports. Since August of last year, it has been operating an integrated system for receiving reports of human rights violations in the sports community, but it has faced criticism for failing to achieve significant results. On the 19th, Lee Suk-jin, the inaugural director, resigned, pointing out structural deficiencies. At that time, he stated, "The mismatch between the center's fundamental responsibilities and the investigative personnel carrying them out makes the sustainability of the center's work difficult," adding, "As the 'sports school violence Me Too' issue has emerged as a social problem, the number of reported cases is accumulating, intensifying the difficulties."

Minister Hwang emphasized that the Sports Ethics Center must firmly establish itself as a human rights protection institution in the sports community and made three major requests: ▲ Strengthening organizational capabilities, including reinforcing investigative personnel ▲ Enhancing the organic functions of the organization through investigation, action, education, and mediation ▲ Gradual expansion of budget and personnel. He stated, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also do its utmost to resolve employees' difficulties and suggestions within the scope of systems and laws and will generously support the Sports Ethics Center's leap forward."
