Hwasun-gun Operates 'Gagahoho Home Visit Program' for Dementia Patients

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 25th that the county's Dementia Safety Center will operate a ‘1:1 Home Visit Shelter’ program for dementia patients as social distancing due to COVID-19 prolongs.

For about 50 registered dementia patients who wish to participate, dedicated staff from the Dementia Safety Center will visit their homes twice a week to provide programs such as exercise therapy, occupational therapy, art therapy, as well as chronic disease management services for hypertension, diabetes, and others.

For households with birthdays in the first half of the year, they also make birthday cakes themselves and hold small birthday parties.

The program aims to alleviate social isolation of dementia patients and their families caused by COVID-19, reduce stress and depression, and conduct cognitive rehabilitation programs tailored to the characteristics of the participants.

A Dementia Safety Center official said, “We strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks and hand washing during home visits,” and added, “We will do our best to support dementia seniors and their families who are going through even more difficult times due to COVID-19.”

For more details, contact the county health center’s Dementia Mental Health Team or the Dementia Counseling Call Center.
