[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seungseop] The Korea FPSB, the internationally certified financial planner CFP qualification certification body, announced on the 10th that it has completed the registration of the free employment placement business.

The free employment placement business is linked to the reemployment education, financial counseling, and non-face-to-face life planning education services for middle-aged and elderly retirees conducted by Korea FPSB, in accordance with the government's mandatory reemployment support service for retirees in their 50s.

Kim Yonghwan, Chairman of Korea FPSB, stated, “The CFP and AFPK qualifications have gained status as preferred qualifications when hiring in financial companies, helping with employment,” and added, “We hope that the qualifications will also be utilized for reemployment preparation after resignation.”

Additionally, the International FPSB announced that despite difficulties caused by COVID-19, the number of CFP certificate holders increased last year as well. At the end of last year, the total number of CFP certificate holders worldwide was 192,762, an increase of 2.5%. Noel Maye, CEO of International FPSB, explained, “This is because the global financial planning industry has been strengthened to manage household finances in the face of issues such as unemployment, honorary retirement, and healthcare caused by COVID-19.”

The country with the largest increase in the number of CFP certificate holders was the United States, with 2,348 new certificate holders. China followed with 1,531, and Japan with 841. Taiwan had the highest growth rate with a 17.3% increase, followed by Malaysia at 15.8%.

In Korea, the number of CFP certificate holders was 3,583, ranking 9th. The number of financial planners (AFPK) was 19,342 at the end of last year, maintaining a similar level compared to the previous year.
