[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 10th that it will hold the first Dong-gu Academy of the year on the 12th at 3 p.m. in the large conference room on the 6th floor of the district office, inviting lyricist Kim Soon-gon.
Since 2007, Dong-gu has been operating the Dong-gu Academy to meet the diverse educational needs of residents, spread a culture of lifelong learning based on communication and empathy, and provide a place for residents to cultivate sound awareness and learning.
Last year, face-to-face operations were completely suspended due to COVID-19, and the academy was changed and operated as an online academy and reading academy. However, this year, it plans to operate flexibly and adaptively both online and offline according to social distancing quarantine guidelines.
The themes and lecturers of this year’s Dong-gu Academy were established by selecting lecturers by generation, preference, and topic, reflecting the results of last year’s survey, and incorporating residents’ interests in health, culture and arts, and humanities.
The first lecturer on the 12th, lyricist Kim Soon-gon, is a figure who left a great mark on the development of popular music with song lyrics that transcend genre boundaries.
His representative works include Cho Yong-pil’s “Gochu Jamjari,” “Mot Chatgetda Kkoekori,” and Nami’s “Indian Inhyeongcheoreom.”
On that day, lyricist Kim will talk about his experiences as a lyricist and the power of music under the theme “The OST of My Life.”
The Dong-gu Academy will be held at 3 p.m. on the second Friday of every month from this month until December, operating a total of nine sessions. In addition to the existing lecture format, it will introduce a talk concert format quarterly to operate as a resident-participation interactive communication method, and outdoor lectures will also be held at places such as the Asia Culture Center.
Also, to comply with COVID-19 quarantine rules, it will operate by advance reservation, recruiting on a first-come, first-served basis through online (Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Portal) and phone registration, and plans to adjust the number of registrants flexibly depending on the situation.
Im Taek, mayor of Dong-gu, said, “The historic Dong-gu Academy, which could not operate face-to-face last year due to COVID-19, has now stretched its wings again and is ready to be with the residents.” He added, “I hope that the invited lectures by excellent figures will comfort the hearts of local residents tired from COVID-19.”
