[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] As Samsung Electronics is expected to advance the release date of the Galaxy Watch4 series, Genitics' stock price is showing strength.
At 10:37 a.m. on the 9th, Genitics was trading at 3,430 won, up 12.27% from the previous day.
IT media SamMobile reported on the 7th (local time), citing famous IT tipster Ice Universe, that the 'Galaxy Watch4' could be released in the second quarter.
According to Ice Universe, Samsung Electronics is expected to release the Galaxy Watch4 series in the second quarter, earlier than the usual third-quarter release. The Galaxy Watch4 series is expected to be released in two types: Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active. To unify the series numbering, the Galaxy Watch Active model is expected to skip Active3 and be released as 'Galaxy Watch Active4.'
Samsung Electronics is reportedly likely to equip the Galaxy Watch4 with a blood glucose measurement function. The strategy is to get ahead in the wearable market competition by including a blood glucose measurement feature that Apple Watch does not have.
Ice Universe predicted that the next-generation Galaxy Watch will be released in two sizes (model numbers SM-R86x and SM-R87x) and will support non-invasive blood glucose measurement that does not require pricking the fingertip. However, it is estimated that the skin temperature monitoring function will be excluded.
There is also speculation that Samsung Electronics may switch at least one of its upcoming smartwatches' operating systems (OS) from Tizen to Google's Wear OS. However, it was added that it is unclear whether Samsung has decided to abandon its own OS or is simply conducting tests.
According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung Electronics ranked second in the smartwatch market in the fourth quarter of last year with a 10% market share, following Apple. Apple held a 40% market share in first place, and Huawei ranked third with an 8% market share.
