[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lim Jongbok, Chief of Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station, personally conducted spring wildfire prevention patrols to inspect the situation on site and carry out educational activities.
According to Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station on the 8th, Chief Lim's on-site inspection was conducted in the Yeongsan River, Pyeongdong Stream, and Myeonghwa-dong areas within the jurisdiction in response to the full-scale spring dry season.
It was found that more than half of the 34 wildfires in the Gwangju area over the past 10 years, totaling 19 cases, occurred during the spring season.
While conducting the wildfire prevention patrol, Chief Lim carried out the following activities at 24 wildfire-prone areas within Gwangsan: ▲ Strengthening joint mobile patrols and surveillance activities with volunteer firefighting teams from fire stations ▲ Establishing a system for sharing aerial information on wildfire sites and emergency defense measures for residential facilities ▲ Guidance on prior reporting for burning rice paddies and field ridges ▲ Conducting wildfire prevention publicity activities utilizing volunteer firefighting teams ▲ Inspection and maintenance of wildfire suppression equipment and firefighting water facilities.
Chief Lim Jongbok said, “In dry weather, even minor carelessness can lead to large or small wildfires, so we ask citizens visiting the mountains to be especially cautious,” and added, “The fire station will also make every effort to prevent wildfires and ensure early suppression.”
