Public Officials Lead Donation Campaign for Regional Culture and Arts Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon Cultural Foundation (Chairman Heo Seok) paved the way for a citizen cultural donation movement by having Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon and senior officials of grade 4 and above sign donation agreements at the Suncheon City Hall small conference room around 10 a.m. on the 8th to promote the widespread civic support for the local culture and arts sponsorship campaign, ‘Suncheon Munhwa Tium’.
The ‘Suncheon Munhwa Tium’ campaign is a Suncheon-style mecenat campaign where ordinary citizens can freely support the development of local culture and arts starting from 3,000 KRW.
Since the Suncheon Cultural Foundation began collecting cultural and artistic donations in July last year, it has achieved sponsorships totaling 517 million KRW from corporations and organizations. From March, it officially launched the ‘Suncheon Munhwa Tium’ campaign to raise interest in supporting local culture and arts and to spread a culture of donation among ordinary citizens.
The accumulated donations will be used in various ways to promote Suncheon City’s culture and arts, which is the foundation’s core mission, including supporting professional artists’ creative activities, developing regionally specialized cultural content, and enabling citizens to enjoy culture and arts. This will be directly returned to realizing cultural welfare for the citizens.
Chairman Heo Seok said, “The small interest and support from citizen mecenats will expand opportunities for local cultural artists’ activities and serve as the foundation for all of us to move toward a true cultural city, Suncheon, where culture and arts are part of everyday life.” He added, “Together with 290,000 cultural citizens, we will successfully achieve a new renaissance in Suncheon and become a model for the citizen cultural revival movement.”
Citizens who wish to participate in the ‘Suncheon Munhwa Tium’ campaign can apply for online donations through the Suncheon Cultural Foundation website or QR code, or contact the Management Support Team of the Suncheon Cultural Foundation.
