Apartment Complexes Hold 'Food Waste Reduction Competition' from March to September
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is conducting a "Food Waste Reduction Competition" targeting multi-family housing complexes in the district for seven months from this month until September.
The district is promoting this to increase residents' willingness to reduce food waste, fundamentally suppress its generation, and reduce environmental pollution as well as social and economic losses.
The competition involves 45,920 households in 83 apartment complexes with 100 or more households using RFID individual weighing devices in the area.
After the competition period ends, the district will comprehensively evaluate based on ▲ reduction rate per complex compared to the same period last year ▲ average monthly emission per person ▲ promotional achievements such as resident education and campaigns, with scores of 50, 45, and 5 points respectively.
Since the reduction rate and emission volume are confirmed through the RFID system, participating apartment complexes only need to submit their resident promotion achievements.
The complexes are divided into three groups by size: 1,000 or more households, 500 to less than 1,000 households, and 100 to less than 500 households. Then, one grand prize winner, one excellence award winner, and one to two encouragement award winners are selected in each group.
In November this year, the district will hold an awards ceremony and present incentives and prizes totaling approximately 11 million KRW to 11 outstanding complexes, ranging from 600,000 KRW (Encouragement Award for the 100?500 household group) to 1.6 million KRW (Grand Prize for the 1,000 or more household group), along with certification plaques and certificates for excellent apartments.
Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "I hope that the spirit of voluntary competition among multi-family housing complexes will spread the practice of reducing food waste and produce many achievements."
