Yoon Seok-yeol's Entry into Politics, 'Appropriate' 48.0% vs 'Inappropriate' 46.3%

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll released on the 8th showed a sharply divided assessment of the appropriateness of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's entry into politics.

According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on 500 people aged 18 and over nationwide on the 5th at the request of YTN, 48.0% responded that Yoon's entry into politics was "appropriate" (32.0% very appropriate, 16.0% somewhat appropriate).


Those who responded "inappropriate" accounted for 46.3% (32.8% very inappropriate, 13.5% somewhat inappropriate). Those who answered "don't know" were 5.7%.


The assessment of appropriateness varied by region. In Daegu·Gyeongbuk (appropriate 75.0% vs. inappropriate 17.3%) and Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (57.0% vs. 36.3%), the majority responded that Yoon's entry into politics was "appropriate," whereas in Gwangju·Jeolla (28.5% vs. 64.7%), the evaluation of "inappropriate" was dominant.


In Seoul (46.0% vs. 45.2%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (48.6% vs. 47.2%), and Incheon·Gyeonggi (45.6% vs. 50.6%), the appropriateness was evenly split.


The assessment also differed by age group. Among those aged 50 and older, the response "appropriate" was more common. The proportion of "appropriate" responses was highest in the order of those aged 70 and over (57.4% vs. 31.1%), 60s (53.9% vs. 40.6%), and 50s (53.5% vs. 42.5%), while in their 30s, 62.7% responded "inappropriate," making up the majority.


By ideological tendency, 60.6% of conservatives responded "appropriate," while 70.1% of progressives answered "inappropriate."
