[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 7th that it has opened an electronic voting system that allows shareholders to exercise their voting rights online ahead of the 52nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders to be held on the 17th at the Suwon Convention Center in Gyeonggi-do.

Shareholders can exercise their voting rights on each agenda item in advance through electronic voting from 9 a.m. on the day to 5 p.m. on the 16th. However, under current law, it is not possible to vote online on the agenda while watching the online broadcast on the day of the general meeting.

Samsung Electronics introduced the electronic voting system last year. Electronic voting was established so that shareholders can easily and conveniently exercise their voting rights regardless of time and physical constraints such as the date or location of the general meeting.

Shareholders can access the system in the way most convenient for them via PC (https://evote.ksd.or.kr) or mobile (https://evote.ksd.or.kr/m), verify their identity, and then exercise electronic voting on each agenda item.

For shareholder verification certificates, KOSCOM securities trading certificates or Financial Payment Service personal limited-use certificates can be used.

In the notice of convocation for the 52nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders sent earlier to shareholders, Chairman of the Board Park Jaewan and Vice Chairman and CEO Kim Kinyam stated, "Difficulties in attending the shareholders' meeting are expected again this year due to COVID-19," and urged shareholders to "exercise their voting rights using electronic voting as much as possible."

Samsung Electronics will broadcast the shareholders' meeting online for the first time this year for shareholders who cannot attend the meeting.

Prior registration is required to watch the online broadcast, and shareholders can apply on the application site from 9 a.m. on the day to 5 p.m. on the 16th, the same period as the electronic voting.

Samsung Electronics plans to accept advance questions from shareholders who will watch the online broadcast, and shareholders can also ask questions in real time while watching the broadcast on the day of the general meeting.

The agenda items for Samsung Electronics' shareholders' meeting include ▲approval of financial statements ▲appointment of outside and inside directors ▲appointment of outside directors as audit committee members ▲approval of the limit on directors' remuneration, among others.
