New COVID-19 Cases Back to 400s... [Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 6th, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases rose back to the 400s at 418 cases in one day. An additional 67,840 people received COVID-19 vaccinations, bringing the total number of vaccinated individuals close to 300,000 just eight days after the vaccination campaign began.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) reported that as of midnight, 418 new domestic COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the cumulative total to 92,055. Regarding infection routes, 404 cases were locally transmitted, and 14 were imported.


By region, Seoul and Gyeonggi areas still accounted for a high proportion. There were 126 cases in Seoul, 172 in Gyeonggi, and 19 in Incheon, totaling 317 cases in the metropolitan area. In non-metropolitan regions, cases were reported as follows: 22 in Chungbuk, 13 in Gyeongbuk, 12 in Busan, 7 each in Gangwon and Chungnam, 5 each in Gyeongnam and Jeju, 4 each in Ulsan and Jeonbuk, 3 each in Jeonnam and Daegu, and 1 each in Gwangju and Sejong. No new cases were reported in Daejeon.


The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 5 from the previous day, reaching 1,632. The number of critically ill patients increased by 1 to 136. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation rose by 353 to 82,913.


On this day, the number of suspected case diagnostic tests was 32,932. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 29,704 tests were conducted, confirming 75 positive cases.


Additionally, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that as of midnight, 67,840 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations, bringing the total number of first-dose vaccinations to 296,380. Among them, 291,131 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 5,249 received the Pfizer vaccine.
