Anti-China Alliance 'Quad' Summit Emerging for Late This Month

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Reports have emerged that the first summit meeting of the Quad, a four-country consultative group consisting of the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, which forms an anti-China alliance in the Asia-Pacific region, will be held at the end of this month.

On the 5th (local time), the U.S. political media Axios reported, citing well-informed sources, that a virtual Quad summit will take place this month.

Bloomberg also reported that Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that the four Quad leaders are scheduled to hold their first virtual meeting on the same day. Prime Minister Morrison added, "The leaders of the four countries will cooperate constructively for peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific."

After the inauguration of the Joe Biden administration, the first virtual meeting of the Quad foreign ministers was held on the 18th of last month, where they agreed to hold regular ministerial meetings, but the holding of a summit was not mentioned.

The political media outlet The Hill predicted that if the Quad group holds a summit meeting, the prospect that the Quad will evolve into an Asian NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) will gain more momentum.
