"From Pink Toad to Among Us" ... Convenience Stores' White Day Character Marketing


[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Ahead of White Day on the 14th, convenience stores have introduced products featuring unique characters such as 'Pink Ddukkaebi', 'Among Us', and 'Mallang-i'. Considering the increasing demand for contactless purchases due to COVID-19, promotions have been set up to offer free delivery for White Day gifts or discounts when paying with affiliated cards.


Candies and Chocolates in Character Designs ... Delivery Fee Discounts for Untact Orders

According to industry sources on the 6th, GS25 is offering products partnered with popular characters preferred by different age groups as White Day gifts this year. These include the 'Jinro Is Back Ddukkaebi Eco Bag Set', which contains candies, jellies, and snacks in an eco bag designed with Jinro's ddukkaebi character familiar to people in their 30s to 50s; the 'Among Us Set' popular among those in their teens and 20s; the national character 'Kakao Friends Set'; and a mini wreath set, totaling about 100 types.


GS25 also offers a 2,000 KRW discount on delivery fees for White Day products purchased through 'KakaoTalk Order' until the 15th, and a 3,000 KRW discount for customers buying six types of White Day products including 'Rocher T-8' via 'Yogiyo'. Customers paying for Ferrero Rocher promotional products with KB Kookmin Card receive a buy-one-get-one-free benefit, and those purchasing 'Trolley Earth Jelly' with Woori Card get a 2+2 gift.

CU has introduced about 100 products in partnership with 10 brands, including offline companies such as clothing, airlines, and theme parks, as well as online contact services like shopping malls, delivery apps, and OTT services. Besides candies and chocolates, these products include representative goods, vouchers, and discount coupons from each company, enhancing both the fun and practicality of the products.


To commemorate Everland's 45th anniversary, the 'Everland Product' uses the 'Natural Farm' design, and the 'Jeju Air Ticket Box', shaped like an airplane ticket and containing candies, chocolates, and a sleep mask, includes a 45% discount coupon for Everland admission and an 8,000 KRW discount coupon for domestic flights, respectively. Some products (20 items) also include a round-trip domestic flight ticket (for one person). The 'Ssangbangwool Thermal Underwear Box', created in collaboration with Ssangbangwool, includes specially made decorative stickers and a 30% discount coupon usable at Ssangbangwool's official online mall 'Try Shop'.


To support customers' untact shopping, from the 9th to the 15th of this month, customers ordering over 20,000 KRW via Yogiyo and those ordering over 10,000 KRW via Naver and Wemakeprice until the 31st will receive a 3,000 KRW discount.

Limited Home Party Products Released ... Additional Discounts with Affiliated Cards

With the increase of home party and stay-at-home customers, Seven Eleven has launched various White Day products planned around the home party concept. They are selling a limited edition 'White Day Party Pack' in collaboration with candy brand Chupa Chups and have prepared cute cotton candy cakes suitable for home parties.


They also sell the 'Mallang-i Eco Bag Set' featuring the character from Lotte Confectionery's soft candy Mallang Cow and the 'Chupa Chups KartRider Package' using characters from the mobile racing game KartRider. A 'Fruit Lollipop Bouquet' filled with sweet fruit candies and roses, perfect as a gift for lovers, is also available. Until the 14th, customers paying with affiliated cards (Hana, Woori, NH Nonghyup cards) for 21 popular White Day products including Chupa Chups and Haribo jelly can receive a 20% discount.

Emart24 has prominently featured two specially made 'Pink Ddukkaebi' goods for White Day. The 'Piggy Bank Set' includes a Pink Ddukkaebi figure piggy bank and 'I'm I Mini Bell Chocolates (4 pieces)', while the 'Storage Cup Set' contains 'I'm I Truffle Chocolates (7 pieces)' inside a cup hugged by Pink Ddukkaebi.


All Ferrero Rocher products offer a 40% discount when paying over 10,000 KRW with BC or Hana Card. Additionally, 129 planned products, including the popular Chupa Chups sets for White Day, are discounted by 33% when paying over 10,000 KRW with Samsung or Woori Card until the 14th of this month.


Lee Eun-bora, a buyer at Emart24, said, "The ddukkaebi character goods introduced last Valentine's Day received great customer response, so we are introducing Pink Ddukkaebi for White Day. Since it is a well-known character, we expect it to be very popular again this time."
