[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Yoon Seok-heon, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), and the FSS branch of the National Office Financial Services Union discussed issues related to the promotion of those involved in hiring irregularities but only confirmed differences in their positions.

According to sources in the financial sector, Governor Yoon and Oh Chang-hwa, chairman of the FSS union, met on the morning of the 5th to discuss the related issues. The FSS union is demanding Governor Yoon's resignation, holding him responsible for the 'personnel disaster.'

The union has recently protested by issuing statements after two employees who were internally disciplined for involvement in past hiring irregularities were promoted to deputy director and team leader positions during the regular personnel reshuffle.

The union argues that while employees have endured hardships such as a reduction in personnel at grade 3 and above and cuts in bonuses due to the fallout from the hiring irregularities, promoting those involved in the hiring scandal without pursuing compensation claims is 'absurd.'

On the other hand, the FSS maintains that the period for imposing disciplinary disadvantages has passed and that the promotions were made based on personnel evaluation results. Governor Yoon is also reported to have said during the meeting with the union that he was unaware of the exact details and that the promotions were in accordance with regulations.

The two sides also clashed over the issue of 'voluntary resignation.' Amid rumors of Governor Yoon's reappointment, the union demanded a declaration of voluntary resignation or withdrawal from reappointment during the meeting.

Governor Yoon reportedly responded that his position is within the 'authority of the personnel decision-maker' and that he cannot decide on it himself.

The union plans to launch a strong 'Governor resignation' campaign starting next week.
