[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A public official from Gangdong-gu Office in Seoul who jumped into the Han River was found dead after more than two months.
According to the police on the 5th, at around 2:40 p.m. on the 3rd, the 119 Special Unit Gwangnaru Water Rescue Team, searching near Jamsil Bridge on the Han River, discovered the body of Yoon Mo (34), a public official affiliated with the district office. Yoon jumped from Gwangjin Bridge in Gangdong-gu on the morning of January 6.
Yoon, who was appointed in January last year, was in charge of issuing fines for illegal parking enforcement at the district office and was reported to have expressed multiple times to family and acquaintances the difficulties he faced during the complaint handling process. It is known that Yoon did not leave a suicide note.
The Gangdong Police Station is currently conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances of the jump after the bereaved family submitted a petition requesting clarification of the reasons for the extreme choice.
Meanwhile, the National Public Officials Labor Union issued a statement on the same day saying, "The deceased's death should be recognized as a 'work-related injury death' due to excessive work stress and treated as a line-of-duty death," and urged, "A thorough investigation should be conducted to leave no doubts."
