Apple to Launch First OLED iPad Next Year

Taiwan's Digitimes reported this on the 4th (local time), citing industry sources. Apple has been increasing its OLED-equipped products since the Apple Watch in 2015. The iPhone X was the first iPhone to feature an OLED display, and since then, Apple expanded this to the entire iPhone 12 lineup.

MacRumors reported that OLED displays have several advantages over LCDs, such as brightness, color contrast, and viewing angles. However, due to relatively high costs, Apple has not adopted OLED displays for iPads and Macs. PhoneArena suggested that launching premium lines like the iPad Pro could reasonably offset the additional costs. The outlet predicted the OLED model's release timing to be around September or early October next year.

However, within the industry, there is also analysis that since Apple is expected to unveil iPads and MacBooks with mini LED backlit LCD displays this year, it may be difficult for an iPad equipped with an OLED display to be released by 2022.
