Ministry of Industry Announces Digital Distribution Infrastructure Construction Project

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 5th the 'Digital Distribution Infrastructure Construction Project' to establish standard product information data and a standard model for small and medium-sized fulfillment as digital distribution infrastructure utilized throughout the entire distribution process.

Recently, with the rapid growth of online and non-face-to-face consumption, consumer convenience services such as product recommendations and delivery innovations using innovative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and big data have emerged as the core of distribution competitiveness. Through this project, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy expects to create a foundation for the dissemination and expansion of standard product information data and a small store-linked fulfillment standard model based on data analysis and prediction, which can be jointly used by manufacturers, distributors, and logistics companies.

This year, the ministry will promote ▲ the construction of online distribution product information data aimed at standardizing product information distributed online ▲ and pilot design for the establishment of shared fulfillment at small and medium-sized distribution joint logistics centers. The construction of online distribution product information standard data will support budgets for product information collection and registration, the establishment of an automated system for registering product information with online distributors, and the formation of a pilot project steering committee. The fulfillment standard model construction project will select a nonprofit organization with fulfillment planning and construction capabilities, then select two local governments owning small and medium-sized distribution joint wholesale logistics centers to conduct pilot fulfillment projects, jointly verifying fulfillment systems and services with budget support.

This project will be posted on the websites of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. Applications will be accepted until the 5th of next month, after which the final project participants will be selected.
