Cheong Holds NSC Standing Committee Meeting... Discusses 'Northeast Asia Quarantine and Health Cooperation Body'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Blue House announced on the afternoon of the 4th that it held a meeting of the NSC Standing Committee chaired by Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office.

Attending the meeting were Jung Eun-kyung, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Kim Sang-jo, Chief of the Blue House Policy Office, Lee Ho-seung, Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs, and Yoon Chang-ryeol, Senior Secretary for Social Affairs.

The attendees agreed to deepen and expand communication and cooperation with related countries so that the Northeast Asia quarantine and health cooperation body can lead regional solidarity and cooperation based on multilateralism, and to continue diplomatic efforts to develop Korea-Japan relations in a future-oriented manner.

They also reviewed the domestic COVID-19 vaccination status and decided to continuously seek necessary measures to overcome the COVID-19 situation as soon as possible.

The attendees closely examined our security situation and agreed to smoothly advance the current issues of the Korea-US alliance, while consulting more closely with the new US administration to establish a comprehensive North Korea strategy at an early stage. They also agreed to strengthen communication and cooperation with related countries while closely monitoring the impact of changes in the global industrial and trade environment on our economy and security, with related ministries cooperating closely.

Regarding the situation in Myanmar, they strongly condemned the violent suppression by the Myanmar military and police against peaceful protests and agreed to actively cooperate with the international community to ensure that Myanmar’s constitutional order is restored peacefully and democratically as soon as possible. They also pledged to ensure the safety of Korean residents and companies operating there.
