"Actively Involve Legitimate Lease Contract Parties in Normal Operations"
Incheon Airport Corporation Considers Physical Measures Such as Power and Water Cutoffs if Operators with Expired Contracts Do Not Vacate by April 1
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] KMH Shilla Leisure, the new operator of Sky72 Golf Club, has promised stable employment succession. They also expressed their intention to actively intervene for the normal operation of Sky72 Golf Course in the future as the legitimate lessee under the lease agreement with Incheon International Airport Corporation.
Park Hyung-sik, CEO of KMH Shilla Leisure, stated on the 4th, "Based on our experience operating four existing golf courses, we are fully prepared to operate the golf course," adding, "Above all, we hope that the current employees of Sky72 do not feel anxious about employment issues, and we have already guaranteed stable employment succession."
Park emphasized, "We will operate in accordance with the purpose of Incheon International Airport Corporation," and added, "We have already conveyed our position that we will fully consider employment stability concerns and public interest considerations raised by the administrative authority, Incheon Metropolitan City."
Currently, Sky72 Golf Course, located on land owned by Incheon International Airport Corporation, is being operated illegally and without permission by Sky72 Golf & Resort, whose contract expired at the end of last year.
In response, Kim Kyung-wook, president of Incheon International Airport Corporation, notified Sky72 Golf & Resort last month to cease operations as of April 1. If they do not vacate by the deadline, the corporation plans to dispatch staff to the site to prevent use of the golf course and explain the situation to visitors one by one. Depending on circumstances, physical measures such as power or water cutoffs are also being considered, showing a firm stance not to tolerate the situation any longer. If stakeholders continue disputes or lawsuits, the plan is to open Sky72 Golf Course to the public free of charge.
Park pointed out, "As the conflict between Incheon International Airport Corporation and Sky72 continues, there are serious concerns about damage to the golf course’s image and customer loss," adding, "Economic losses due to proactive investments for normal operation preparations have already occurred."
KMH Shilla Leisure expressed regret over Incheon City's reluctance to actively intervene administratively. Park said, "The most realistic way to quickly normalize the current situation is for Incheon City to take the measure of 'cancelling the registration of sports facility business' for Sky72," and added, "As the successor operator, KMH Shilla Leisure will actively intervene in any future issues to prevent innocent victims." Incheon City is currently allowing Sky72 to operate illegally without permission despite the expiration of its sports facility business registration.
