[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Prince Harry of the United Kingdom, has claimed that the royal family is treating lies about the couple as established facts.
On the 3rd (local time), the US CBS network released a 30-second preview of an interview between Duchess Markle and Oprah Winfrey.
In the preview, Duchess Markle said, "It is surprising that the royal family expects us to just keep quiet when they actively try to make lies about us a given."
She added, "If there is a risk of losing something (through the interview), I want to say that we have already lost a lot."
The interview with Prince Harry and Duchess Markle is scheduled to air on the 8th, and it is expected to cover topics such as the racial discrimination Markle faced within the royal family and the reasons behind the couple's departure from the royal household.
Earlier on the same day, ahead of the interview preview broadcast, The Times of the UK reported allegations of 'power harassment' by Duchess Markle, which is likely to intensify the conflict between the royal family and the couple.
The Times reported that it obtained testimony from an anonymous source claiming that Duchess Markle bullied staff during her time in the royal household. In response, Buckingham Palace expressed "deep concern" about the report and announced plans to investigate.
British media noted that it is very unusual for the royal family to issue a statement regarding media reports, indicating that tensions between Prince Harry and Duchess Markle and the royal family are escalating.
Prince Harry and Duchess Markle declared their independence from the royal family in January last year and moved to the United States via Canada. The couple currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
