[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City has actively promoted the electronic delivery system that allows residents to easily receive and pay local tax bills via smartphone.
According to Gwangju City on the 4th, the electronic delivery system enables taxpayers to conveniently receive and pay local tax bills (resident tax, property tax, automobile tax, registration license tax, etc.) usually issued by the tax authorities through apps of simple payment companies such as KakaoTalk, Naver, Payco, apps of 15 financial institutions including Gwangju Bank and NongHyup, electronic mailboxes (Wetax), and email.
Until now, applications for electronic delivery of local tax bills were made through the electronic mailbox using Wetax or by visiting the tax office, but now applications can also be made through simple payment companies and apps of 15 financial institutions.
Once electronic delivery is applied for, it will be effective from the following month, and just applying grants a deduction of 150 KRW per bill. If electronic delivery and automatic transfer payment are applied for simultaneously, a deduction of 500 KRW per bill can be received.
Last year, Gwangju City issued 2.12 million local tax bills and recorded an electronic delivery rate of 10.9% (230,000 cases). This year, through active promotion of the system, they plan to raise the rate to 20%.
Kim Il-yong, Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau of Gwangju City, said, “Rather than forgetting and paying late with additional penalties, we ask residents to actively use the electronic delivery system that allows convenient receipt and payment.”
