[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that it has selected an integrity book that both the older generation and the millennial generation within the organization can read and empathize with, in order to minimize conflicts and foster a warm organizational culture.

The 2021 Gimhae City integrity book is the guidebook for communication in the public sector titled “The Public Official Born in 1990 Has Arrived”, and all employees including the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Gimhae will participate in a reading relay.

Although the city achieved its highest-ever score in last year’s integrity evaluation, ranking overall Grade 2 (1st in the province, 3rd nationwide), it felt that building mutual understanding among employees is essential to achieve Grade 1. Therefore, it selected “The Public Official Born in 1990 Has Arrived”, a must-read book for the two generations living together in the public sector, as the integrity book.

Since differences in professional awareness, organizational culture, and work methods are major factors that can disrupt the organization, this is a proactive measure to reduce the gap and increase understanding between generations.

The city is sharing excerpts through the integrity notification room of the Saeol administrative system, which employees use. Starting with the reading relay, various events such as reading quizzes, one-line impressions, and reading reflection presentations will be held together in the future.

Mayor Heo Seong-gon of Gimhae said, “Through the integrity book, I was able to understand the characteristics of millennial public officials and the differences between generations from the perspective of senior public officials,” and added, “Please make efforts so that it becomes an opportunity to expand communication among colleagues and realize a new public service culture based on empathy and consideration.”
