[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Korea Citibank held a dialogue event between Yoo Myung-soon, Citibank President, and Professor Gina Young from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in celebration of 'International Women's Day.'
Citibank announced on the 4th that on the 3rd, International Women's Day, President Yoo held a virtual dialogue with employees and Professor Gina Young under the theme 'Challenges and Choices in My Life.'
Professor Gina Young shared her story of boldly deciding to go to the United States after failing the domestic medical residency exam, progressing through Harvard Medical School's Brain Imaging Research Center and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and eventually becoming a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She also talked about her experience of contracting an autonomic nervous system intractable disease. Along with her motto, 'Follow your true heart,' she shared her courageous challenges through life's ups and downs and continued with a Q&A session with the participants.
President Yoo shared her thoughts as a senior and role model for junior female leaders, as well as a female leader balancing work and family. Yoo said, “I believe that the experiences, insights, and resonant messages gained from Professor Gina Young’s ongoing journey of challenges will become a small wave that changes culture. I hope our Citibank colleagues realize that it is never too late to take on challenges and continue to develop themselves with a flexible mindset.”
Meanwhile, Citibank is conducting various programs focused on the employment, development, and retention of female talent. With Jane Fraser appointed as the first female CEO on Wall Street as of the 1st, the gender ratio on Citibank’s board has become 50:50, and the current 29% female representation among country heads aims to increase to 50%.
