[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] A high-ranking executive of the famous American sports brand 'Nike' resigned due to issues related to his son, who is a reseller.
A reseller refers to a person who buys a large quantity of limited-edition products and later sells them at a higher price to make a profit.
According to the U.S. economic media outlet 'Bloomberg' on the 1st (local time), Ann Herbert, the head of Nike's North America division, informed the company of her intention to resign. Nike is currently searching for a successor to Herbert.
Herbert was appointed last June as an executive responsible for sales and marketing in the North American region. However, controversy arose recently when it was revealed that her son, Joe Herbert, is a reseller.
According to Bloomberg, Joe established a reseller-specialized company called 'West Coast Streetwear' and purchased $132,000 (approximately 146 million KRW) worth of limited-edition Nike shoes using a credit card under his mother Ann Herbert's name, then resold them to generate profit.
Joe, who dropped out of college, started this business during his high school years and is currently running the business by reselling thousands of pairs of shoes every month.
However, Joe denied the allegations, stating, "I have never received internal information such as (Nike) discount codes from my mother."
