Final Service Report Meeting Held... Reflecting Residents' Opinions Through Surveys and More
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 3rd that it plans to transform the Sotae-dong sanitary landfill into a theme park where family visitors can spend their leisure time.
On the same day, Dong-gu held the final report meeting for the final cover design and post-utilization plan for the Sotae-dong sanitary landfill and presented this space utilization plan.
The final report meeting, held after the interim report meeting in November last year, was organized as an opportunity to discuss the optimal plans, including the final cover of the landfill and post-utilization measures.
Earlier, in September 2018, Dong-gu formed a task force (TF) team composed of related experts to establish a long-term and comprehensive development plan for the sanitary landfill and has continuously considered post-utilization plans by holding idea contests, among other efforts.
Additionally, to gather residents' opinions on the utilization of the landfill space, an online and offline resident survey was conducted through Dong-gu’s mobile app ‘Dudream’ in October last year, revealing that many residents preferred the creation of a camping site.
This is analyzed as a preference for leisure facilities integrated with parks due to the lack of outdoor spaces for family leisure time.
Dong-gu plans to actively reflect residents' opinions and utilize the area as a rest space-type theme park equipped with outdoor sports facilities, a theme park, and a camping site. The theme park will be developed in phases after the completion of the sanitary landfill’s final cover.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “We have been carefully reviewing and considering the utilization plan for the sanitary landfill together with residents,” adding, “We will actively incorporate expert and resident opinions through the service results to rebirth Dong-gu as a representative premium leisure facility.”
