"The Devil Comes from Calculating Advantages and Disadvantages"… Ahn Cheol-soo Issues Warning to People Power Party

"Isn't the goal not just to nominate a candidate now?"
Hurry to complete unification and promote the vision to the people

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Ahn Cheol-soo, the People’s Party candidate for Seoul mayor, issued a warning on the 3rd regarding the ‘war of rules’ in unifying opposition candidates. He stated that unifying candidates based on advantages and disadvantages would lead to losing the election and being criticized by the public.

On the 3rd, Ahn appeared on BBS Radio’s ‘Park Kyung-soo’s Morning Journal’ and said, "We need to focus on a method to select a candidate who can win," adding, "They say the devil is in the details, and that devil comes from each side calculating their own advantages and disadvantages."

He continued, "If you keep calculating advantages and disadvantages like that, and a method that seems neither rational nor fair to people emerges, then no matter who wins, it will actually be difficult to unite forces and you will lose the election," he warned.

Ahn said, "Our goal is not just to field a candidate now," and added, "Those who think it’s okay to lose the Seoul mayoral election as long as they become a candidate will rather be abandoned and criticized by many citizens."

This is a warning that if the People Power Party insists only on methods favorable to them during the opposition candidate unification process, they will suffer damage beyond just losing the election.

Ahn also emphasized the need to meet promptly once the People Power Party candidate is decided. He said, "As colleagues competing in good faith, it is necessary to reach an agreement on unification and inform the public together," adding, "If we promise to reach an agreement as soon as possible so that supporters do not get tired or worried, it will create much more synergy."

Ahn repeatedly stressed the importance of speed. When asked by the host if unification should be done as soon as possible, he replied, "Yes," and said, "If the opposition takes charge of Seoul’s administration, wouldn’t it be better to have even one more day to inform people how Seoul will change?" He added, "Compared to the ruling party, the opposition lacks various means and time to talk about such things."
