[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The movie "Seobok," starring Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, will be released simultaneously on online video streaming services (OTT) and in theaters next month.
CJ ENM announced on the 3rd that the film "Seobok" will be released as an original content on the OTT platform TVING on April 15 and will also open in theaters.
"Seobok" tells the story of Ki-heon (Gong Yoo), an intelligence agent assigned to secretly transfer Seobok (Park Bo-gum), the world's first cloned human, on his final mission. Amidst the pursuit by various forces targeting Seobok, they embark on a special journey and become entangled in unexpected situations. The film has attracted significant attention due to its theme of a cloned human, the first acting collaboration between Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, and as the new work of director Lee Yong-ju of "Architecture 101."
A representative from TVING stated, "We boldly decided to invest because 'Seobok' is a work that can provide a specialized content experience to TVING users. Starting with 'Seobok' and the variety show 'High School Mystery Club' by PD Jung Jong-yeon, which was TVING's first original content released at the end of January, TVING plans to continuously expand its content portfolio by sequentially introducing well-made original content across various genres."
The CJ ENM Film Business Division explained, "As consumer perspectives and demands for content are rapidly changing, we decided to release 'Seobok' on TVING simultaneously with its theatrical release to reach a wider audience through diverse platforms."
Since its spin-off from CJ ENM in October last year to become an independent corporation, TVING has been actively producing original content. Recently, JTBC joined TVING, and cooperation plans with Naver are also under discussion. TVING plans to invest over 400 billion KRW in production costs over the next three years to secure well-made original content.
