[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Hancom Group announced on the 3rd that it has acquired the drone-specialized startup 'AwesomeTech'.
'AwesomeTech' is a company that possesses drone crash prevention technology, drone battery management, and special-purpose drone development technology.
The smart parachute and paraglider technology independently developed by AwesomeTech is equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS), enabling independent flight control. In the event of a crash, the parachute automatically deploys to identify the drop location and automatically returns to the designated point. AwesomeTech has developed 'Battery Doctor,' an automatic battery management technology, and also holds special-purpose drone development technologies such as fixed-wing and rotary-wing drones.
Hancom Group plans to expand the market by appointing Song Jaegun, former chairman of the Korea Drone Enterprise Association, as AwesomeTech's technical advisor simultaneously with the acquisition.
Hancom Group also made an equity investment in 'Sundolyi Drone,' a drone manufacturing specialist company. Founded in 2015, Sundolyi Drone is a first-generation domestic drone company that develops and sells drones for military, industrial, agricultural, and educational sectors. It currently supplies various military drones to the Army Drone Education Center and delivers drones to fire and police departments.
Through this acquisition and equity investment, Hancom Group has secured various advanced technologies and know-how necessary for drone manufacturing. Hancom Group plans to lead the domestic drone market by localizing core drone technologies and establishing a drone mass production system.
Hancom Group aims to build a 'drone value chain' through the alliance of group companies, including DroneSAT, an unmanned automation system from Hancom Inspace acquired last year; drone-based disaster safety services from Hancom Lifecare; drone mission training promoted by Hancom Academy; drone charging and drone load business from Hancom MDS; and drone certification business from Hancom Intelligence.
A Hancom Group official stated, "With China dominating the domestic and international drone markets, we expect to contribute to securing competitiveness and self-sustainability in the domestic drone market through discovering and investing in domestic companies possessing core technologies." He added, "We will lead the domestic drone market through continuous technology research and development and active cooperation and partnerships."
