[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 2nd that it will establish and implement a comprehensive inter-agency response plan in cooperation with related organizations and groups, as well as devise direct job creation strategies to improve deteriorating employment indicators such as a decline in employment rate and an increase in unemployment rate, based on the results of the regional employment survey in the second half of 2020.
The city has set a goal to recover employment indicators above the national average in the first half of this year, with an employment rate of 60.0% (up 2.3%) and an unemployment rate of 3.8% (down 2.4%).
First, a customized matching project will be promoted by conducting a job vacancy survey targeting local manufacturing companies and small business operators to find and match the necessary job seekers.
In addition, the city will intensively recruit participants in a short period for wage support projects such as the Gimhae-type post-COVID youth job project and social enterprise job creation project, and proceed with these projects.
Public job projects such as the Community Link Project, Self-Support Work Project, and Senior Job Project will also be expanded and implemented in the first half of the year. Furthermore, employment stability preemptive response packages for supporting biomedical companies and training specialized personnel, as well as support projects encouraging new and re-employment hiring for middle-aged workers, will be promoted in the first half.
Moreover, through cooperation with related organizations and groups such as local university job centers and Employment Welfare+ Centers, the city plans to review the expansion of currently ongoing job projects and discuss measures to improve the employment rate, including establishing linkage plans to discover new job projects.
The city plans to sign MOUs with five companies over two days on the 3rd and 7th, and up to 300 new jobs will be created following the investment agreements.
Additionally, the city will promote linkage plans for new job creation through fostering biomedical research institutes and small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthen manufacturing competitiveness such as automobile transportation by connecting with specialized executing organizations including the Gimhae Biomedical Industry Promotion Agency, Inje University, and Gaya University.
Along with this, efforts will be made to attract companies to existing industrial complexes such as Seogimhae General Industrial Complex, Myeongdong General Industrial Complex, and Jinrye Techno Valley General Industrial Complex, as well as to discover new jobs through early attraction of large discount stores like Costco.
A Gimhae City official said, “We have actively promoted job projects every year as a top priority for job creation, and we will continue to pursue more proactive job creation projects to do our best to improve our city’s employment rate and stabilize the unemployment rate.”
